Las Vegas Raiders: 5 things to watch for against San Francisco

Marcus Mariota’s playing time

Through two games so far this preseason, the Las Vegas Raiders have only featured one quarterback. Nathan peterman has taken every single snap for the team and has played well to cement his status as the preseason goat.

We did not expect to see much of Derek Carr anyway but not seeing Marcus Mariota out there has been a surprise. He is reportedly dealing with a quadricep injury, but we could see him in action this Sunday.

Mariota is a veteran quarterback and we know what he can do, but it should be an exciting show for the fans if he can play against San Francisco. His last playing time was the unfortunate loss to the chargers in relief of Carr, where he played well but made some crucial mistakes that, if avoided, could have flipped the game for the Raiders.

Gruden may not want to risk Mariota this weekend but he could also use the game to try out some new schemes or packages that he has prepared for the dual-threat quarterback. Gruden will definitely not want to show too much in preseason and expose Mariota to some big hits but there is no test better than some live football action.
