Las Vegas Raiders: 2021 53-man roster prediction after preseason finale
- SS: Johnathan Abram, Karl Joseph, Tyreese Gillespie
- FS: Tre’Von Moehrig
Moehrig has so much potential this season. He was a second-round steal for Vegas during the draft, as he is both an incredibly talented player and a great fit for the defensive scheme. He can be the true “centerfielder” that the team has been lacking since Charles Woodson retired, but it’s important to remember that it may take time for him to develop.
So, if he isn’t perfect at first, don’t start thinking that he was a waste of a pick.
While Moehrig has all the time in the world to develop, it seems as though Abram’s time is winding down. If he wants to make an impact and be a cornerstone of this defense, then he better do it now. Hopefully, his new position as a box safety will better suit his skill set and allow him to flourish on the field.
If Abram doesn’t work out, then Joseph and Gillespie will be ready to take over. Gillespie especially has a lot of potential to be a really good player if Las Vegas decides that Abram isn’t the answer.
Be sure to watch how they use Gillespie this season if at all. The rate of his snaps will most likely rely on that factor of whether or not Abram can be a great player for the team.
