Las Vegas Raiders: 3 biggest cuts during the 2021 53-man roster release

John Brown

When John Brown was brought into the Raiders organization, it appeared that he may be the WR1 for the team and could become the next version of Nelson Agholor. Unfortunately for Brown, this is not what happened, and Brown ended up requesting his release after being around the team, likely due to the fact he would have no clear role.

This is a good sign for the Raiders, as it shows that their young group has been impressing the coaching staff, making there no need for Brown. Bryan Edwards has taken over the WR1 role, Henry Ruggs appears to be much improved from last season, and Hunter Renfrow has been looking as good as ever.

Although John Brown is a good player and would have added another speedy weapon for Carr, he was not really the type of receiver that the Raiders needed, and his release shows the Raiders are ready to lean on their young group of wideouts. Hunter Renfrow returns, as does Zay Jones, and with Willie Snead IV making the 53-man, this is a group that may have question marks but is also loaded with talent.
