Las Vegas Raiders: 3 biggest mistakes from the current 53-man roster
Cutting Karl Joseph
This may not be a popular take, but the cut of Karl Joseph I believe is going to be one that is viewed as a mistake down the line. Sure, Ron Milus has done a tremendous job with the secondary this offseason, and defensive coordinator Gus Bradley is excellent when it comes to coaching up the defensive backs, but KuJo could have been a major asset in 2021.
Johnathan Abram is coming off a very bad season, one where he looked out of place far too often, and actually cost the Raiders the game against the Kansas City Chiefs at home. In Joseph, the Raiders could have had a veteran to play behind Abram, and possibly step in if we see the same player we saw last season.
Instead, the Raiders went very young at the safety position, as Abram will start alongside rookie Tre’Von Moehrig, and the group will be backed up by Tyree Gillespie, another rookie, and Roderic Teamer. They did bring back Dallin Leavitt to the practice squad, and Joseph quickly found work in Pittsburgh, but I believe he should have provided veteran depth for the Silver and Black this season.
