Las Vegas Raiders: 3 new starters on defense to be excited about in 2021

Tre’Von Moehrig, Safety

The Las Vegas Raiders secondary was a mess last season, and that led to the team being one of the worst in football against the pass. This offseason, the franchise made a concerted effort to get better back there, bringing in a defensive coordinator in Gus Bradley who is outstanding at coaching them up, as well as an elite defensive backs coach in Ron Milus.

Also, the Raiders added quality personnel, including a second-round draft pick that could have been a first-round pick in my opinion. TCU star safety Tre’Von Moehrig has everything this defense has been missing, and he will be a plug-and-play starter as a rookie at the free safety position.

Moehrig may be young, but he has the tools to be a real playmaker in this defensive backfield, joining another young player in the starting lineup in Johnathan Abram. If Abram can bounce back from a rough season, and Moehrig is the real deal, then the Raiders have completely fixed one of the bigger issues on their defense from a year ago.
