Las Vegas Raiders vs. Baltimore Ravens: 3 Surprises in Week 1

Production from Wide Receivers

The beginning of this game for the Raiders was really rough.  Josh Jacobs’s toe injury really slowed him down, the Ravens defensive line was getting pressure on Carr, and no other player other than Darren Waller, or a running back was getting targets.

This caused the Raiders to go down 14-0 early on, but in the second half, things started opening up more for the supporting role players, and they started producing.  Hunter Renfrow caught a couple of big-time balls, Henry Ruggs III had one of the most important catches in the game as a 37-yard catch near the end of the fourth set up the Raiders game-tying touchdown to make it a 24-24 ball game.

Bryan Edwards, who has been a training camp darling for the past couple of seasons actually had two of the most important catches of the game.  One at the end of regulation to help set up Carlson’s game-tying 55-yard field goal to send it into overtime, as well as a 33-yard catch in overtime in which everybody thought was the game-ender.

Although Waller is the best offensive player on the Raiders, and will always be the number one target, the wide receivers need to step up their game so he can continue to be such a threat.  Well, tonight they did just that, and it ended up in a Raiders victory.
