3 reasonable expectations for the Las Vegas Raiders against Miami

Jon Gruden gets creative with the playbook

The playbook of Jon Gruden has been somewhat practical and conservative for the most part so far in 2021, and that has been fine. Besides some magic provided by quarterback Derek Carr and his speedy receivers, the offensive play-calling has been somewhat predictable at times.

Taking on an opponent who will leave plenty of room for error, we may see Gruden open up the playbook a bit more by trying out some different types of plays. Maybe some more handoffs to wide receiver Henry Ruggs, “possible” wildcat packages with Kenyan Drake?

It is hard to imagine with the staunch play-calling of Gruden, but with such a weak opponent in Miami, it may cause Gruden to be able to use some creativity and try out some new tactics, as the Raiders are still finding their footing early in the season. It is hard to conceptualize new ideas coming into play with Gruden, but let’s be honest, how many people at all envisioned the Raiders even starting the season 2-0?
