Las Vegas Raiders at Los Angeles Chargers: 3 bold predictions in Week 4
Bold Prediction 1: Raiders get burned by an old friend
Jared Cook has not had the best start to his tenure with the Los Angeles Chargers, as his best outing coming in the opening game against the Washington Football Team where he caught five of eight targets for 56 total yards.
Cook and the Raiders know each other well, as he was one of Derek Carr’s favorite targets for two seasons, including Jon Gruden’s first year back in charge. Cook combined for an impressive 1,584 yards during his two years with the Raiders before moving on to New Orleans.
Despite his lackluster numbers to begin the year in 2021, Cook has been looked at several times in the red zone, including having a touchdown called back due to an illegal shift penalty. The athletic tight end can still put the ball in the endzone, as he reached paydirt seven times last year with the Saints, despite missing a game due to injury.
And while the Raiders have looked a lot better this season against tight ends, they did allow Mike Gesicki to catch 10 receptions for 86 yards last week against the Dolphins, including an inexplicable 4th and 20 conversion in OT.
Don’t be surprised if Jared Cook can burn the Raiders once or twice; Cook’s first touchdown of the season could very well be on the way.
