Las Vegas Raiders: Studs and Duds from 2021 Week 4 vs. Chargers

Duds – The offensive line and the run…again

We knew coming into the season that the offensive line would be a major question mark for the Raiders but it has gone from unknown to disaster in a few weeks. The unit was already going to be re-shuffled with several new additions, but thanks to injuries and some poor play from starters, it has completely unraveled.

The Chargers have a good defense and solid pass rushers but the Raiders gave up four sacks and Derek Carr was running for his life on just about every possession. The struggle to pass protect was the main cause of the offensive issues early on but the inability to generate any semblance of a running game was a factor as well.

The return of Josh Jacobs did little to improve the Raiders rushing attack and they finished with 80 yards rushing or less for the third game this season. There was some hope that they had turned things around after last week’s performance against the Miami Dolphins but it was more of the same with most of their runs going for 1 to 3 yards.

The Raiders have three winnable games coming up against Chicago, Denver, and Philadelphia but all three of those teams have strong defensive lines and the prospect of facing those units is terrifying. Even if the Raiders were playing the worst defense in the NFL, we would still be concerned about the offensive line holding up consistently.
