Las Vegas Raiders: Studs and Duds from 2021 Week 4 vs. Chargers

Studs – can Hunter Renfrow play both ways?

This whole post could have been about how great Hunter Renfrow is. The man known as Third and Renfrow was all over the field for the Raiders as he made play after play on offense, special teams, and technically on defense as well.

Renfrow finish the day with 6 catches for 45 yards and a touchdown but the most memorable thing he did was the pass break up on fourth and long in the first quarter. There was no gunner lined up on the left side and the Chargers attempted a fake punt pass but Renfrow read the play and broke up the pass like a veteran defense of back.

We’ve had receivers play defensive back in the NFL, most notably Troy Brown of the New England Patriots, and perhaps if the situation gets truly dire the Raiders could line up Renfrow at free safety. Every week he seems to make a play that swings the game or shifts momentum and he had two such plays this week with his pass break up and his touchdown.

He is a special player and a true diamond in the rough found by Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden.
