If only we were talking about the first few games, we would be able to write a sparkling article about Derek Carr. Unfortunately, this week is much like the previous one in which the eight-year starter struggled heavily. There are a ton of narratives here, he did not play well and overthrew his receivers while also dealing with the continued struggles of an offensive line that is breaking apart week-by-week at the seams.
Whatever the reason for Carr’s recent pitfalls, the struggles are reaching not only into the stat sheet but the win column. After back-to-back losses, Carr looked as bad as he had in Los Angeles last Monday. Throwing for a shade over 200 yards in this one with no touchdown passes and an interception.
It seems that he is returning back to earth after an otherworldly season in which he decimated all three opponents he faced in the opening few weeks. He was awful in this one, and the offensive line surely played a part, but either way you look at it, the struggles of the captain were truly highlighted here.
