Las Vegas Raiders: 3 Philadelphia Eagles to worry about in Week 7
Jalen Hurts, QB
Jalen Hurts has had a streaky year so far, with three good to decent games, and three bad games, but the past couple of games have been examples of the latter. For two weeks in a row Hurts failed to throw for over 200 yards, while simultaneously completing less than 60% of his passes.
It would seem that he shouldn’t be someone to worry about considering his inexperience and accuracy issues, facing a defense that has been stout against the pass, with cornerback Nate Hobbs earning the fifth-highest grade among corners per Pro Football Focus (#1 among rookie defensive backs) through six games, Casey Hayward ranked No. 1 among corners, and Maxx Crosby playing at an elite level leading the way.
However, Hurts needs to turn things around if he is to prove he is the guy for Philadelphia for the remainder of the season and should be coming into this game motivated to do so. Hurts has had some struggles this year, but he is a great athlete and can still put up numbers as he did in weeks 3 and 4.
The Raiders have had a history of letting everyone down when things are looking up for the past couple of decades, and playing down to teams that they should be able to beat on paper has been a large part of those letdowns. Last season, the team started off 6-4 and then only tacked on two additional wins to close the season.
This is why I believe Hurts, while not playing great, should not be overlooked.
The outlook on the future of the season won’t be bright for the Eagles if they lose on Sunday, and coming off a Thursday Night Game gives them a few more days to game plan for Las Vegas. Hurts can be a problem if the Eagles lean more on the run game than they have throughout the season, causing the Raiders to stack the box and hoping Hurts can take advantage and turn things around this season from a passing standpoint.
Let’s hope it isn’t the Raiders who he turns things around against if he does.
