3 Reasons the Las Vegas Raiders need to sign Odell Beckham Jr.
No. 1: Beckham Jr., makes life easier for Darren Waller
There have been points throughout the current NFL season that Darren Waller has been triple-teamed by opposing defenders. While that may be a natural response to a single player racking up nineteen targets in the team’s first game, it has not allowed Waller to have another game with the same effectiveness, at least statistically, since Week 1.
The addition of Odell Beckham Jr. would be an instantaneous cure for this problem.
If the Raiders can add such an intimidating presence at receiver like Beckham Jr., is, the attention that Waller is garnering would have to decrease simply by default. Defenses would have to pay more attention to Beckham Jr. than they have had to with any receiver the Raiders have had in some time.
Opposing defensive coordinators being forced to choose between doubling Darren Waller and doubling Odell Beckham Jr. is not a task that anybody would envy. Even if there are daring enough coaches to decide to double team both players, that leaves single coverage for the Bryan Edwards and Hunter Renfrows of the world.
Odell can come into Las Vegas and make an immediate impact this way, even if he isn’t catching six or seven balls per game right away.
