Las Vegas Raiders vs Kansas City Chiefs: Defensive grades for 2021 Week 10

Defensive Backs

The Las Vegas Raiders secondary has improved this season despite injuries and the release of 2020 first-round pick Damon Arnette.  Cornerbacks Casey Hayward and Nate Hobbs have both been labeled as two of the best cornerbacks in the league, and both were steals for the Raiders this offseason.

Hayward was signed for little money close to training camp, and Hobbs went from a fifth-round pick in this year’s draft to winning the starting slot cornerback job.  After struggling much of last year, Johnathan Abram had been much better in 2021 playing closer to the line of scrimmage, and having rookie Trevon Moehrig patrolling the deep area helped eliminate deep passes all season.

That was until Sunday night.

Even a player like Brandon Facyson had come in after being signed off the Chargers practice squad and played well enough to supplant second-year corner Amik Robertson following the injuries to Trayvon Mullen and Arnette before his release.  In this game, every single one of those players played their worst games of the season.

Just like the overall defensive performance this game has to be an aberration than what’s to come in the remainder of the season.  They will once again be tested this coming Sunday against weapons like Ja’Marr Chase, Tyler Boyd, and Tee Higgins let’s see if they are up to the challenge.
