Sit ‘Em

Bryan Edwards

Ever since the devastating incident with Henry Ruggs III that ultimately lead to his release, Edwards was thrust into a bigger role within the offense. That’s not to say he’s expected to fill the hole that Ruggs’ release opened in this offense, but Edwards was essentially playing 4th fiddle to Ruggs, Waller, and Hunter Renfrow.

Now as the 3rd option at receiver he’s been seeing more targets and having a decent amount of production to go along with it.

Edwards however has struggled against man coverage. The majority of his success has come against zone coverage where he can find a pocket in which Carr can thread the needle to him. His most recent touchdown against the Chiefs is a perfect example of how he’s able to take advantage of that.

The Bengals have a couple of physical corners on the outside who aren’t afraid to press off the line and make receivers create their own separation right from the get-go. With Cincinnati’s ability to rush the quarterback and create pressure, this combination doesn’t bode well for Edwards who needs time to get off of jams and get into his routes.

Look for someone like Hunter Renfrow to a large amount of the wide receiver targets this week, as he is quicker off the line, in and out of his cuts, and plays predominately in the slot. Edwards could be the lone outlier for this receiving squad, even if the offense can get a rhythm and be as dynamic as we’ve seen in weeks prior.
