Raiders vs Washington Football Team: 3 things we learned in Week 13
Derek Carr struggled against his former head coach
One of the key storylines from this game was the fact that Jack Del Rio would be matched up against his former quarterback in Derek Carr. Del Rio was the last head coach to lead this Raiders team to the playoffs, and he did so with Carr as his signal-caller, though it has not been all that great since he left.
Del Rio has questioned Carr’s toughness, especially in cold weather, and on Sunday, the former head coach of the Silver and Black certainly got the best of No. 4. Carr ended up with less than 300 yards passing against the worst pass defense in the NFL and did not find the end zone against his former coach.
All told, it was one of the worst games we have seen from Carr, as he played timidly, did not take shots downfield, and did not will his team to victory, much like his counterpart, Taylor Heinicke, did. This was classic Del Rio on Sunday, and he may have ended any chances the Raiders legitimately have of being a playoff team this season.
