Las Vegas Raiders vs Washington Football Team: Offensive Grades for Week 13

Safeties

Raiders second-round rookie Trevon Moehrig has not only quietly been one of the best safeties in the 2021 draft class, but he’s also been one of the best safeties on the entire NFL.  Moehrig has almost completely erased the opponent’s ability to hit big passing plays down the field with his impressive coverage, but he has struggled to make plays on the ball when the Raiders really needed it.

In the Raiders’ first matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs, Moehrig had a chance to intercept Mahomes after he threw up a 50/50 ball but failed to, and the Chiefs went on to score on the next play hitting a backup running back against fellow safety Johnathan Abram.  Then, on the final Washington drive in which they went on to kick the game-winning field goal, Moehrig had read and perfectly jumped a pass from quarterback Taylor Heinicke.

That play would’ve easily been a pick-six and would’ve sealed the game for the Raiders, but the pass went through his hands and the Raiders ended up losing the game.

Johnathan Abram was ok in this game getting only three total tackles, but also got called for a bad penalty because an offensive lineman decided to get in his way while he was trying to make a tackle
