No. 3: Tyrann Mathieu, Safety

As we stated earlier in this piece, Trevon Moehrig has been one of the bigger bright spots on this Raiders defense this season, starring for the team as a rookie. Las Vegas traded up to get him in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft, and they are lucky they did, as he has superstar written all over him, and is only going to get better.

On the other side of the coin is Johnathan Abram, a player bursting with the talent to be an elite guy at the NFL level, but also one that may never reach his potential. He plays too out of control at times, is bad in coverage, and outside of a few solid plays, he has not done much of anything since being a first-round pick back in 2019.

It is clear that Abram is not a long-term solution for the Raiders at the safety position, so why not take a stab at getting Tyrann Mathieu on the roster next offseason. A veteran who would be outstanding in terms of teaching Moehrig how to play the game, Mathieu and Moehrig would be a dominant force in the defensive backfield next season, a tremendous combination of age and youth.
