2022 NFL Free Agency Class

The 2022 quarterback free agency class is probably even worse than the draft class. In 2020 the Tampa Bay Buccaneers had the luxury of being able to sign Tom Brady and produce a Super Bowl season immediately. However, there is no Tom Brady in this class, and not even close.

The top name here is Jameis Winston. The former number one overall pick has been a bust through his career, and will also be coming off a season-ending ACL tear when he even is available to play again. When he was on the field surrounded by a talented New Orleans Saints offense, he played poorly and showed that he truly is not the quarterback many believed him to be coming out of Florida St.

The next best is Teddy Bridgewater, the Denver Bronco quarterback who has struggled with a change of scenery in Denver, and is a week-to-week hit or miss for the Broncos as they have virtually no identity on offense. So do not expect Teddy to be the problem solver either.

Just to touch on a hot topic here. Gardner Minshew is technically not a free agent, but he will likely be available as his current team has Jalen Hurts entrenched as the starter once he is healthy. He has become a media darling more for his mustache than his actual talent.

And although everyone is quick to anoint him a savior of some sort, his superb play last week came against a 3-9 Jets team who is one of the league’s worst. Do not think Minshew could come in and save this franchise, he is levels below Carr.

Whether you want to roll the dice and take a chance on a quarterback in the NFL Draft or sign a quarterback via free agency, there is no true successor to Derek Carr here. I know the quarterback has faced his share of adversity, and some of it may be on him as well — there is no quarterback incoming through the draft or free agency that is an upgrade. Who knows what the Raiders may do in the offseason if the struggles continue, but be careful what you wish for.
