Las Vegas Raiders vs Kansas City 2021 Week 14: Studs and Duds

Duds – Josh Jacobs, Foster Moreau, and Zay Jones

The entire offense deserves to be listed here especially the offensive line but Josh Jacobs deserves a special mention for how he opened the game. After the tough start against Washington, Jacobs came out and talked about the need for the Raiders to start faster and be more aggressive to open the game.

Instead of doing that, Jacobs did the exact opposite on the first play of the game as rather than cutting upfield and minimizing the damage, he bounced the run outside to lose more yards and fumbled with minimal contact. Kansas City scooped up the fumble and returned it for a touchdown to give them a lead they would not relinquish.

The fumble was not the reason they lost the game but it’s simply inexcusable for someone who thinks they’re a top-tier back to make a mistake like this to open the game. It effectively ended the game before it even started and made the long odds the Raiders faced even longer and impossible to overcome. They needed to play a perfect game to win in Kansas City and instead, they handed Kansas City 7 points on the first snap of the game.

Foster Moreau and Zay Jones contributed to this as well as both players fumbled the ball with minimal contact and showed a complete lack of focus in this game. The Moreau fumble was especially bad as it was while the game was still somewhat within reach and was a completely unforced error. The fumble by Jones ended the game and it was over well before that, but he has done himself no favors with his play the last two weeks.
