Las Vegas Raiders: 5 realistic head coaching candidates for 2022

Dabo Swinney

If you saw my article from last week, then you would know that Dabo’s appearance at Allegiant Stadium sparked a frenzy of rumors. While it’s definitely an intriguing option, I don’t think it’s one that Las Vegas should do. But Mark Davis may believe that Dabo could be the exact spark, or experiment, that the team needs to be a contender in the AFC.

Dabo obviously has a great resume. He’s had a lot of success in Clemson, bringing two National Championships titles to Death Valley. His team has taken a bit of a decline this year, though, and he’s lost both of his coordinators and his athletic director. So, since he has to enter a potential rebuild without any of his coaching staff, he may decide it’s time to see what the NFL has to offer.

The main issue with signing Dabo is the contract that he would have to be offered. At Clemson, Dabo is currently signed to a ten-year contract worth $93 million. Davis would likely have to match that, which means another Las Vegas head coach signed to a record-breaking deal. And Dabo isn’t a proven talent on the NFL level, which is also a major risk.

So, this deal seems to be the biggest risk out of any other potential coach signing, but that doesn’t mean it’s completely off the table.
