Las Vegas Raiders: 5 realistic head coaching candidates for 2022
Byron Leftwich
Another great offensive coordinator primed to takeover a team is Tampa Bay’s, Byron Leftwich. Leftwich, like Bieniemy, is a coordinator who helped lead his team to a Super Bowl victory. This is his third season as the Buccaneers’ coordinator, and he’s been able to create one of the league’s most dominant and consistent offenses in all three seasons.
Leftwich’s first season featured an offense helmed by Jameis Winston, who threw for over 5,000 yards and 33 touchdowns. That was also the same year where Winston threw 30 interceptions, which really hurt the team’s chances of winning games. The next season, Tom Brady, Leonard Fournette, and Rob Gronkowski came to Tampa, worked with Leftwich, and took the team to a Super Bowl victory.
And in 2021, the offense’s success is much of the same.
So, Leftwich certainly has the resume. The only concern with Leftwich is whether or not he can rebuild a team and rework an offense. He can clearly succeed when the pieces are there, but does he have the ability to actually acquire the right pieces to make the offense an effective one? That may be a risk that Las Vegas has to take.
