Las Vegas Raiders vs LA Chargers 2021 Week 18: Studs and Duds
Studs – Derek Carr
This was not a vintage performance by Derek Carr by any means as he finished an uncharacteristic 20-36 for 186 yards but did throw for two crucial touchdowns. He was pressured relentlessly, sacked 3 times, hit 5 times, and nearly cost the Raiders the game by being stripped late in the 4th quarter by Joey Bosa.
Despite the pressure, Carr kept battling and overcame a big missed opportunity in overtime by delivering a few strikes to set the Raiders up for the winning kick. This game was another example of Carr not blowing anyone away with his numbers but being able to deliver in key situations and do just enough to win the game.
I don’t believe in wins as a QB stat and it was clear which QB was having the better game on Sunday, but this is a team and Carr seized on some key opportunities to give the Raiders a chance to win. He now gets to play in the first playoff game of his career and we know he will be amped to go out there and show what he can do. Hopefully, he can channel that energy positively and give the Raiders a chance to win their first playoff game in two decades.
