That brings me to Sunday night. Big game. Big spot for Derek to step up and prove he should no longer be considered in a middle tier of quarterbacks. This was the moment for him to say, “Hey, I’m the guy this team needs and I’m the clear-cut future of the franchise.”

Unfortunately, I have to say his performance left something to be desired.

We needed to see an A performance out of him, and I think we got a low B. The middle-of-the-pack quarterback gave another middle-of-the-pack performance, and I do not believe it swayed many people into his camp who weren’t already there.

For me personally, I went into that game hoping I’d come out of it saying “Okay, I was in the middle, but now I’m 100% in on Derek Carr,” and that was not the case. I’m not out on him by any means, but I remain somewhere in the middle when it comes to my opinion on him as a top quarterback in this league- not like my opinion matters, though.

If we look at his game log of 2021 for reference, in Sunday’s performance:

(1) He put up his worst completion percentage of the year going for 55.56% on his reasonable 36 attempts.

(2) He threw for his lowest total of yards in a game all season with 186.

(3) His yards per attempt were also a season-low at 5.17.

(4) His passer rating was the 11th-best he’s posted all year at 88.4.
