A Derek Carr extension looms large over the Raiders
Does it make sense from a business standpoint?
A critical, if not the most important, factor that could play a role in whether or not an extension for Carr makes financial sense. Bleacher Report’s Maurice Moton pointed out that Carr’s agent should probably not let Carr play this upcoming season without a long-term agreement in place. It’s a fair point to bring up considering that Carr has no guaranteed money left on his contract, per Spotrac. Say he has a career-altering injury.
That certainly would be a disastrous scenario for Carr, the player.
What happened with the Raiders this season is the stuff of movies, or at the very least, an ESPN 30 for 30. He led the Silver and Black back to the playoffs for the first time since 2016 despite his head coach resigning and losing his number one wide receiver. We’ll have to see if Carr’s people will press the Raiders or if a blockbuster trade ends up dominating this offseason’s headlines.
