2022 NFL Draft: Early targets for Raiders No. 22 overall pick
By CJ Errickson
Georgia’s Jordan Davis is the interior force that the Raiders defense lacks.
The last dominant Raider defensive tackle was Richard Seymour who’s last season with the team was in 2012. So 10 years later, the Silver and Black have lacked a true difference-maker at the position. With that being said, Georgia’s Jordan Davis can fill the void.
Davis was the centrifugal force of coach Kirby Smart’s championship this past season. Defensive tackle’s work often goes underappreciated and unnoticed, but Davis is an exception.
You would be hard-pressed to find a better or larger-run defender considering Davis’ 6-6, 340-pound stature. One of the best prospects in this year’s draft class may have you thinking that he is a certified top 20 pick, but scouts say otherwise.
As great of a run defender Jordan Davis is, he will not be everyone’s cup of tea.
Many teams emphasize stopping the aerial attack in today’s NFL, and rightfully so. Due to that, the notion of drafting early-down defensive tackles will be a turn-off to some organizations. In addition, in terms of scheme versatility, he would be a better fit in an even front rather than an odd front to maximize his run-stopping capabilities to minimize the threat of triple-teaming him at the point of attack.
Therefore, it is more than possible he will be available when the team selects. His presence alone could assist a defense that allowed the most 4th down conversions and red zone touchdowns on the season for the Las Vegas Raiders. Should the Silver and Black decide to not address the trenches, the theme of bigger, faster, and stronger continues at one of the offensive skill positions.
