Allen Robinson as the Raiders next star wide receiver makes sense

What would Robinson bring to the table?

Robinson is a proven commodity at this point in his career. He’s a Pro Bowler who’s amassed more than 800 receiving yards four times in his eight-year run. He’s also accumulated 42 touchdowns through the air; his best total was in 2015 with the Jacksonville Jaguars, when he had 14. More than that, he can still stretch the field.

He’s not a burner like Ruggs was, not at all, but he could fill the X role for the Raiders. Bryan Edwards had a decent sophomore campaign, but he didn’t come close to fulfilling the hype he’s been given.

Edwards’ struggles are attributed to several reasons, but one of them might be that the trust and chemistry have come slowly with Carr. With Robinson, Carr would have an instant proven weapon that he’d rely on from the outset; think Michael Crabtree.

An example of what Robinson can do for the Raiders was seen in Week 9 when the Chicago Bears took on the Pittsburgh Steelers. The NFL’s Next Gen Stats highlighted a play in which Robinson stretched the field from the slot, beating the Steelers’ corner and going for 39 yards. Explosive plays like this were missing from the Raiders after Ruggs was gone. Certainly, Las Vegas would be able to dial up some plays for Robinson.
