The Las Vegas Raiders need an X receiver next year, so why not Allen Robinson, who could be looking for a fresh start outside of Chicago?

The Las Vegas Raiders need an X receiver in 2022, and they will likely look to the 2022 NFL Draft or free agency to fill that role. One player they could target is Allen Robinson, a standout wideout from the Chicago Bears who is hitting free agency.

Allen Robinson had an underwhelming 2021 season considering it was preceded by back-to-back years where he totaled more than 1,100-plus receiving yards. Be that as it may, Robinson would represent a certain upgrade over most of the Raiders’ current wide receiver corps. The lone exception right now is Hunter Renfrow, though Zay Jones performed admirably in clutch situations.

However, Las Vegas needs more weapons, and they need them promptly.

The obvious factor in why the Raiders’ passing took a big hit in 2021 was the departure of Henry Ruggs III. Also, the fact that tight end Darren Waller missed significant time due to his injuries hurt Las Vegas. Yes, Derek Carr was in the NFL’s upper echelon for passing yards, but the team didn’t score a ton. Hence, why did No. 4 only total 23 touchdowns via the air this past season?

The Raiders are going to need someone with reliable hands who can still stretch the field, someone who’s both physical and has the frame to be a dominant X receiver. More importantly, they need a threat to help open up the Raiders’ putrid red zone offense.

At age 28, Robinson is still in his prime years, though he was hindered by a nagging hamstring injury last season. This caused him to play in just 12 games, clearly affecting him as his receptions experienced a significant drop to 38 total from 102 the previous year when he was healthy and started 16 games.

However, he’s due for a comeback; he’s too talented not to have one in 2022.
