Las Vegas Raiders swinging a deal for Michael Gallup could work
Gallup would give Derek Carr a legit option at WR
Raiders quarterback Derek Carr relied a lot on Hunter Renfrow last season. It’s no wonder that Renfrow set career-high records across the board. Darren Waller also missed significant time with his own injuries, which further hindered the passing attack after Ruggs’ release. DeSean Jackson showed he still had speed but never really built chemistry with No. 4 after he came on board.
Zay Jones will likely remain a Raider given his rapport with Carr and the fact that the signal-caller trusts him. Gallup, however, would bring speed and the ability to make big plays downfield.
Gallup’s longest receptions have consistently been of more than 41 yards in his career. In 2019, his longest was 62 yards. That season was also the first time he cracked 1,107 receiving yards, and though he hasn’t done that since the talent is there if he were in the right situation.
A career average of 15 yards per reception indicates an ability to stretch the field, something the Raiders desperately need. From 2019–20, Gallup’s total yards traveled in the air before being caught were 774 and 591, respectively. A receiving grade of 73.1 by Pro Football Focus is certainly noteworthy.
Imagine if Carr had both Gallup and Renfrow as options next season, each on opposite sides, with Waller streaking down the middle. Raider Nation should be drooling over this prospect.
