Las Vegas Raiders swinging a deal for Michael Gallup could work

The Las Vegas Raiders know they need to bolster the wide receiver group for the 2022 season, and Michael Gallup could be an option.

The Las Vegas Raiders will look to add to their wide receiver corps this offseason, that is for sure. The popular consensus within Raider Nation is that they want Green Bay Packers superstar Davante Adams. A lot of this stems from his shared history with current Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, in particular, their college brotherhood at Fresno State.

However, it’s unlikely the Packers will let him escape. However, Gallup would be a nice backup plan.

While Adams is a two-time All-Pro, Gallup is no scrub in his own right. The third-round pick out of Colorado State has flourished with the Dallas Cowboys since 2018. In 2019, he was seventh in the NFL for yards per reception, averaging 16.8 in that year. That same season, Gallup also averaged 79.1 yards per game, which was good for sixth in the league.

While he’s battled injuries throughout his career, 2021 was devastating to his numbers. He only played in nine games before succumbing to a torn ACL in his left knee. It’s certainly a devastating injury that will require extensive rehab, but in all likelihood, he’ll be back at full strength. Gallup is only 25 years old, and he still has his career ahead of him.

As far as the Raiders go, Gallup would be a worthwhile investment. Following the release of Henry Ruggs III, the team lost its number one wide receiver, and it showed the rest of the season. No one would expect Gallup to replace Ruggs, but his addition would give the Raiders’ offense another dimension.
