Raiders need to trade for Ryan Ramczyk amid Saints turmoil

The New Orleans Saints be looking to unload players.

Two years ago, maybe even last offseason, attempting to acquire Ramczyk would’ve been laughed at. That would’ve been due to the fact that the Saints were trying to remain playoff contenders in their post-Drew Brees era.

Fortunately for the Raiders, a major domino has fallen in the bayou: head coach Sean Payton has retired from the NFL. All signs point to a complete rebuild. Moving from some hefty contracts will likely be the first order of business, along with trying to gain some draft capital.

Basically, if the deal sounds good, the possibility should exist, especially when you consider how much Ramczyk is costing the Saints. The tackle’s services will cost $10.5 million; that’s his base salary. His cap hit of more than $23 million is staggering, though he does have a potential out in 2024, per Spotrac.

It wouldn’t be shocking if New Orleans started to move its biggest contracts this offseason, Ramczyk’s among them. To pull off a trade, the Raiders will almost certainly have to part with draft picks and will have to be creative in dealing with the salary cap. Funny enough, during Gruden and Mayock’s time, picks were rarely moved for proven talent, much to the detriment of the team. Maybe a new managerial philosophy will change all of that.
