Raiders: Potential assistant coaches to join Josh McDaniels in Vegas

ST Candidates and Final Thoughts

Joe Judge – Former New York Giants head coach

Special teams are essential to football; just ask the Green Bay Packers after last week’s crushing loss to the San Fransisco 49ers, where multiple kicks and blocked. For Josh McDaniels and his Patriots roots, he knows the vitality of special teams play. So for him, the choice that makes the most sense is former New York Giants coach Joe Judge.

The two worked together on New England’s staff for eight years. In each season together, Judge served as the Patriots’ special teams coordinator. New England had a top special teams unit each season in that time frame. While Joe did not have a good stint as the Giants head coach for the past two seasons, it is clear that his pedigree is in special teams play.

The Las Vegas Raiders can build a solid staff under Josh McDaniels

Given the above candidates and their familiarity with the new head coach of the Silver and Black, it is given that he possesses a good network and reach to build a competent staff around him. Again, the above candidates are based on familiarity and networking based on research and history.

While many of them may seem underwhelming (mainly for OC’s), this will be the Josh McDaniels show from an offensive standpoint.

Next. Las Vegas Raiders: Nate Hobbs just missed being named to ESPN’s top-10 rookie list. dark

The offensive coordinator will be more of a title given to an offensive assistant. What should be noted is that the hire of Josh may not excite fans, but it would be a hire that could bring a broader range of proven assistant coaches to Las Vegas than other candidates.
