Raiders: Potential assistant coaches to join Josh McDaniels in Vegas
Other OC Candidates
Chad O’Shea – Cleveland Browns Passing Game Coordinator/WR Coach
Yet another familiar face to Josh McDaniels is current Cleveland Browns offensive assistant Chad O’Shea. O’Shea and McDaniels served together on the New England Patriots for seven seasons. Specifically, Chad was New England’s wide receivers coach and now holds the same position as the Browns.
While predominantly a WR coach, he did serve as an offensive coordinator for one season with the Miami Dolphins in 2019. That year, the Dolphins had the ageless veteran of Ryan Fitzpatrick at quarterback, and the team did manage to score over 26 points in four out of their five total wins on the season.
Again, it is essential to note that this position will likely be filled by someone familiar with Josh’s desires, and O’Shea possesses the ability.
Mike McCoy – Currently not coaching
Another old rival of the Raiders rounds out this list of potential offensive coordinators, and that is former (San Diego during his tenure) Los Angeles Chargers head coach Mike McCoy. Mccoy served as McDaniels’ offensive coordinator in his first head coaching stint with the Denver Broncos in 2009 and 2010.
Times have changed, and McCoy has been out of the NFL since 2018 when he was the Arizona Cardinals, offensive coordinator. Again, another individual with familiarity and head coaching experience for Josh to plant on his staff to help implement his offense. With that being said, the potential defensive coordinators provide much more appeal and importance.
