McDaniels might want some familiarity at running back.

The Raiders head into the 2022 season with some talented running backs. McDaniels is no doubt aware of the talent that Josh Jacobs possesses. After getting off to a slow start for several reasons, Jacobs came on strong at the end of this past season. Due to a pending contract extension, no one outside of Raiders HQ knows what the future holds for Jacobs.

It also doesn’t help that Jacobs put out a passive-aggressive Tweet following McDaniels’ hiring.

Kenyan Drake, who was signed last year, had his season cut short due to injury, but he may experience a resurgence with McDaniels’ play calling. With that being said, the new head coach might look to his old squad for some help. The Patriots are loaded at running back, and it’s possible they might not want to pay for James White’s services next season.

He’s coming off a season-ending injury, and he’ll soon be 30. If White feels the Patriots are lowballing him, the Raiders could offer him something more reasonable. A three-time Super Bowl champion in his own right, White would bring with him a championship pedigree, something this Raiders team is lacking.

A reliable option out of the backfield as well, he’d be an upgrade over Jalen Richard. Other than last season, which was cut short after three games, White has never garnered less than 375 receiving yards, save for his rookie season.
