Raiders: 4 potential free agent replacements for Marcus Mariota

Brian Hoyer

Finally, we land on a guy who was a backup for McDaniels just this past year, as Brian Hoyer served behind Mac Jones in the same role he would serve behind Derek Carr if they brought him in. In fact, he has been with McDaniels on two occasions, knows his offense well, and is someone that the new Raiders head coach can trust.

Hoyer is an older veteran at 36 years old and is not someone who would be expected to come in and start multiple games for the Silver and Black. However, Carr has proven durable during his NFL career, and a savvy veteran like Hoyer could come in and spell him late in games if the Raiders are up by a lot, or potentially make a start or two in an emergency.

These four players are good enough to come in and win some games for the Silver and Black if Carr goes down this upcoming season, and try to keep the ship afloat. Las Vegas should be in a position to challenge for the playoffs for the second straight year, but having a solid backup is going to be crucial if the team finds themselves without Carr for an extended period.
