Raiders: Placing an early grade on the hire of Josh McDaniels

McDaniels and Carr

The success with quarterbacks for McDaniels has been his bread and butter so to speak, working with arguably the greatest quarterback of all-time in Tom Brady for numerous years, he was also instrumental in the success of rookie quarterback Mac Jones this season — who despite being the fifth quarterback selected in the 2021 draft, had by far the most impressive first season.

The up-and-down play of quarterback Derek Carr has been discussed among RaiderNation for nearly a decade at this point, and although he did have a rather successful 2021 season which resulted in a playoff appearance, his play over the second half of the season was unspectacular, as well as a constant struggle to find the end zone, despite numerous red zone attempts.

This saw the Raiders lose various points on a week-to-week basis, an issue that apparently McDaniels addressed and outlined how to fix to Raiders owner Mark Davis.

Not to place complete blame on Carr here, and honestly, for a player that is now going on his sixth head coach in nine seasons, it may be amazing to think he can even have a slight bit of success considering the state of this franchise.

McDaniels seems to somehow gain the trust of Davis, and this can hopefully translate to trust and success with Carr as well. Especially considering he has been very complimentary of the quarterback and expects to have great success with Carr as the leader of this offense and franchise.
