Is J.C. Jackson worth a $100 million contract to the Raiders?
Jackson could play for the Raiders in his prime
For years, the Raiders overpaid for players past their prime. They were usually in their third NFL contract by then. With Jackson, they’d be getting a 26-year-old corner that’s coming off a season where he accumulated eight interceptions and a whopping 23 pass deflections. No offense to the current Raiders roster but no one in it comes close to that level of defensive production on an individual basis.
For those who are thinking he played lights out due to it being a contract year, in 2020, he totaled seven interceptions and 14 pass deflections. In other words, Jackson is the real deal. Jackson’s coverage grade per Pro Football Focus was 83.0 last year. Another impressive feat: The Associated Press Second-Team All-Pro surrendered only three touchdowns via the air.
What’s scary for opposing offenses is that Jackson hasn’t technically hit his peak yet. At the same time, there could be a concern that Jackson might fall into a long line of Patriots players that went elsewhere for more money and saw their careers take somewhat of a nosedive. Again, this speaks more to Belichick’s abilities at putting together a defense than a knock on said players.
With that being said, if you want this level of talent, it won’t come cheap, and no, McDaniels and Ziegler won’t be getting a “Patriot” discount either.
