Analyzing the Raiders Running Back situation entering the 2022 offseason
When Drake was signed last offseason, many questioned it. He was given a large contract despite being a backup and already having resources invested in Jacobs and Richard. Drake was thought to be the Joker in Jon Gruden’s system, but that never came to fruition, while also struggling to handle a full load and pass protect.
Maybe Josh McDaniels can find a better role for Kenyan Drake, but this signing currently looks like a disappointment as he heads into the final year of his contract.
Drake is still a tremendous playmaker with great receiving skills. Drake is also coming off of a broken ankle and will need to rehab to establish a role in this new offense. Drake still offers a great change of pace option and maybe better schematic plays will allow Drake to become the weapon he was thought to be.
