The latest mock draft scenario by Pro Football Focus sees Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr getting shipped off to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

There’s a reason why Derek Carr is the subject of offseason rumors every year. It’s probably because the NFL sees the signal-caller in a different light than many in Raider Nation. Any team that needs a starting quarterback to come in and immediately improve their team should be making inquiries.

By the same token, the Raiders’ new brain trust made it known upon their introduction that winning right now with Carr was the goal. While a contract extension has been the trendiest story relating to the Silver and Black, nothing official has surfaced.

As a result, scenarios in which Carr gets shipped off continue to get spun in the media. In this case, the Steelers, who need a quarterback after Ben Roethlisberger retired, make a move to get No. 4.

What does the trade for Raiders QB Derek Carr look like?

From the Steelers’ perspective, acquiring Carr allows them to remain competitive in the AFC North for another three to four years, assuming they work out a long-term deal with the signal-caller. However, giving up that much draft capital seems unlikely as the organization could draft a quarterback in the first round of this year’s NFL draft.

Getting their hands on that many draft picks would surely be enticing for Dave Ziegler and Co. However, this year’s draft class is being called one of the weakest in recent years. While there is tons of talent available at positions such as edge rusher and cornerback, the Raiders won’t find Carr’s replacement in this year’s draft.

The only way this trade works for the Raiders is if they plan on acquiring a big-name NFL quarterback, and up to this point, there’s been zero evidence pointing to that.
