Las Vegas Raiders: 3 offensive tackles to target in 2022 free agency
Terron Armstead
Possibly the “crown jewel” of the offensive lineman free agency class in general, Armstead will have a long list of suitors. The three-time Pro Bowler at right tackle would surely fit a need for the Raiders, the only issue is at what cost?
Armstead missed the majority of the 2021 season due to injury and will turn 31-years-old at the start of the 2022 season. So what kind of money are we talking about for a talented, but aging veteran? This is something the Raiders must ask themselves.
However, a talent like this should be considered, especially when looking at the revolving door at right tackle the Raiders had in 2021, which started with rookie Alex Leatherwood and ultimately ended with veteran Brandon Parker taking over in a rather poor move.
The offensive tackle position has evolved in terms of age, and veterans such as Los Angeles Ram Andrew Whitworth and San Francisco 49er Trent Williams have changed the way veterans are paid and valued at the position.
Armstead is fairly young when comparing him to someone of the likes of Whitworth, who at 40-years-old was a catalyst for a Rams super bowl victory.
The former third-round pick might be able to command a rather handsome contract, and with a market for offensive tackles that have been on the rise for years, he may be able to command a contract in the four-five year range, even if he is over 30 years of age.
Expect the Raiders to at least sniff around Armstead, as he is the best available offensive tackle in this class and might just be worth the price of admission.
