Las Vegas Raiders: 5 bold predictions for the 2022 offseason
Bold Prediction No. 2: Derek Carr gets a new deal
There has long been speculation about whether or not the Raiders would stick with Derek Carr as their quarterback, or look for an upgrade elsewhere. Especially after it became clear that Las Vegas would be hiring a new general manager and head coach, Carr’s future became even more unclear.
However, with reports that Josh McDaniels is high on the veteran signal-caller, and limited options otherwise, it seems more and more likely that Carr will be sticking around in Vegas.
Carr is coming off one of the most successful seasons of his career, as he led the Raiders to a 10-win season and the franchise’s second playoff berth in 20 years. Despite some struggles putting the ball in the endzone, Carr still put up respectable numbers, with 23 TDs compared to 14 INTs and over 4,800 yards.
If Ziegler and McDaniels can put more weapons around Carr, especially on the outside, and re-tool the offensive line a bit, Carr’s upcoming ninth season could be his best yet. McDaniels’ offense should fit Carr like a glove and it would be no surprise if he were to thrive in the new system.
Watch for the Raiders to extend DC’s contract for at least two years, likely in the $40m per year range.
