Defensive tackle Andrew Billings is headed to the Raiders

With February over, so are the days of the Raiders having 0 DTs on the roster this upcoming year. Former Bengals DT Andrew Billings agency announced on Twitter that the 26 year old has reached an agreement with the Las Vegas Raiders, making him the first defensive tackle under contract for the 2022 season.

Let’s get to know Billings a little bit and talk about what he brings to this Las Vegas team.

To put it bluntly, the last two years have not been kind to Billings’ stock. In 2020, the 6’1 IDL opted out of the season for Covid concerns. Returning to football this past year, his season was anything but impressive. He would play just six games, registering one single tackle in 72 snaps. This would earn him a PFF grade of 47.5.

Things weren’t looking good, and as a result Billings found himself searching for a new home halfway through the season. He would get picked up by two separate teams later this same year, but didn’t see the field for either.

It’s not all bad, though.

Before the ‘20 opt-out and disastrous ‘21 season, Billings established a name for himself. He was a full time starter for Cincinnati in both ‘18 and ‘19, where he compiled 81 tackles and 12 TFL in this span. That PFF grade looked a lot better too, earning 71.1 and 69.3 respectively.

Las Vegas is hoping the DT can return to this form, and if he does, Raider Nation will have something to be happy about. With Billings being the first under contract for the 2022 season, let’s look at some possible contenders to fill DT roster spots.
