3 Reasons Raiders are smart to shut down Derek Carr rumors

1. The Raiders are committing while being transparent

McDaniels and the Raiders are playing their cards well this offseason. When he and Ziegler were introduced, they made it clear that they believed they could win with Carr. However, they did not give any specifics on an extension or anything of that nature, just a simple compliment.

By giving Carr praise, it could at least be assumed that Carr wasn’t going anywhere. Had they chosen to be more cryptic or even outright uncommittable, the rumor mill would’ve taken off, and while it hasn’t stopped mock scenarios from popping up, nothing concrete from the organization ever surfaced until this week’s Combine.

Since Jon Gruden returned before the 2018 NFL season, all the noise every offseason has been about the team moving on from Carr, so maybe this is a good thing. McDaniels made it clear that Carr would be the team’s starter in Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season on Wednesday, putting to rest any talk of a change this offseason.
