2022 NFL draft (with Chark) under year 1 of the Las Vegas Raiders new regime.
With the Raiders head coach change, a change of coordinators shortly followed. Josh McDaniels elected to bring in Giants assistant defense coordinator, Patrick Graham, to take the role of defensive coordinator for Las Vegas.
Graham is most commonly noted for running an ‘every scheme’ type of defense, where he doesn’t shy away from using, well, any scheme.
This is perfect for Oklahoma’s Brian Asamoah.
Asamoah is a very reliable tackler, plays well against the run, can cover backs out the backfield, and even flashes technique when asked to go after the QB as he’s recorded 5 sacks throughout his college career.
If none of that gets you excited, Raider Nation, I know what will. Asamoah is an aggressive hitter, looking to dominate the ball career with every hit.
He’s likely best suited as an outside linebacker, as he brings a little of everything but currently isn’t too dominant at one specific thing. With that being said, a good amount of time was spent at middle linebacker in the past, so he’s no stranger to playing the middle and lining up the defense.
This pick opens up a lot of options for the Raiders. Not only can Asamoah do anything Graham asks of him, but with his prior MLB experience, we could be looking at someone that steps in and takes over for Denzel Perryman in the event Perryman doesn’t return in 2023.
