Raiders 7-round 2022 NFL Mock Draft: Las Vegas gets explosive on offense
2022 NFL draft (with Chark) under year 1 of the Las Vegas Raiders new regime.
Immediately after the 163rd overall pick in the 2022 NFL draft, guess who’s up to make their selection? The Las Vegas Raiders, following their pick at 163.
With third down running back Jalen Richard hitting free agency, Zaquandre White is the man we look at.
I originally liked Pierre Strong Jr here, but after nailing the 40 with a 4.37 time, I fear that ship has sailed and another team will jump on him earlier. In the long run, this only makes White available later, although if Strong Jr is here by chance it’s hard not to grab him.
White didn’t run at the 2022 combine, but he did run a 4.51 back in 2016. While that may be 6 years ago, the film doesn’t indicate he lost any of that speed. Truth be told, he might have even gotten faster.
Coming in at 6’1, he also brings great size. Aside from his frame and speed, though, what makes him a great third down back is his skills in the passing game. The south Carolina back has great hands in addition to his footwork, which allows him to run routes better than most at his position.
If you’re looking for White to be an every down back, you’re probably going to strike out. He’s gone his entire college career as part of a committee, and lacks a sufficient open field presence to be counted on from down to down.
Now of course, him being part of a committee his entire college career is only a positive for his body. White comes in fresh and ready for what should be a lengthy career, and offers the skillset to excel at a now vacant role.
