The Las Vegas Raiders need to bolster the secondary this offseason, and this duo at cornerback would be a best-case scenario in 2022.
During the 2021 offseason, the Raiders added two quality cornerbacks to the mix, adding Casey Hayward in free agency, and Nate Hobbs via the 2021 NFL Draft. That helped bolster a position group that has been an Achilles Heel for this franchise for years and was key to the team winning ten games last season.
As they enter the 2022 offseason, the team will once again have to bolster the position group, and there are two veterans to keep an eye on in free agency.
Raiders should look at adding veterans at the CB position
When it comes to the cornerback room, the Raiders cannot afford to roll the dice on bringing in a rookie to start at the position group this season. The AFC West got a lot better at the quarterback spot this week with Russell Wilson being traded to the Denver Broncos, so six times a year they will face Wilson, Justin Herbert, and Patrick Mahomes.
There are some veterans in free agency that the Raiders could target, but one duo stands out above all others. If the Silver and Black can get Casey Hayward to come back, and bring in JC Jackson via free agency as well, they instantly bolster the position group as a whole, especially with Trayvon Mullen still on the roster.
Nate Hobbs emerged as a true slot cornerback as a rookie in 2021, and he returns for Year 2, and the hope is that he can keep his off-the-field problems to a minimum moving forward.
Don’t disregard what the Las Vegas Raiders have in Derek Carr
The Las Vegas Raiders have a strong quarterback of their own in Derek Carr, who could reach new heights under Josh McDaniels in 2022.
When it comes to the 2022 Las Vegas Raiders, the defense is going to be the key, as the rest of the teams in the division can hurt you in so many ways on the offensive side of the ball. If they can upgrade at cornerback, and get Mullen to take a major step forward, they should be solid in the defensive backfield, but safety remains a question mark once again.
However, adding veterans like Hayward and Jackson will take a lot of pressure off of that position group.
