Raiders free agency: Interior defensive linemen to consider in 2022

Solomon Thomas/Quinton Jefferson

As a fan base, Raider Nation is very familiar with the signing of a player that was a failed first-round pick, as they have done it over and over again in the past without it working out too well. That’s why it was so surprising that it actually did work out last season when the Raiders signed former 49ers’ first-round pick Solomon Thomas to hopefully revive his career, and revive his career he did.

Thomas had a career-high in sacks last season with three and a half sacks, two forced fumbles, and created some penetration from the defensive tackle position getting a career-high 12 quarterback hits. Quinton Jefferson came over last season on a one-year deal from the Buffalo Bills partially due to his previous relationship with Yannick Ngakoue and for his ability to generate pressure up the middle.

Jefferson finished with 16 quarterback hits, four and a half sacks, and five tackles for a loss. Jefferson and Thomas were able to provide much more pressure from the interior than we have seen in the recent past, so I believe that the Raiders should look into bringing one of these guys back if not both.
