Raiders free agency: Recapping Day 2 of 2022 legal tampering period

Towards the later hours of Day 1, Las Vegas turned their attention to cornerback Stephon Gilmore. On Day 2, the Raiders did their best impersonation of the previous day, as they once again remained just before making a push for a corner as the clock ran down.

This time, it was the New York Giant’s James Bradberry. You can bet the New York corner was on defensive coordinator Patrick Graham’s wish list from the first moment he landed in Vegas himself. The Raiders tried to reunite the two, but ultimately like Gilmore, no deal was made.

This may prove favorable for Las Vegas in the near future, as New York could potentially cut the corner if no suitor is found via trade.

As for Gilmore, no [reported] progress was made here, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t good news. Yesterday, it was said three-teams are in the running for the former DPOTY: The New York Jets, San Francisco 49ers and the Las Vegas Raiders. Shortly after this report, the 49ers committed to a different cornerback of the future, and on day-two of free agency, the Jets did the same.

This doesn’t mean Gilmore won’t receive more interest, but only one team remains from the original three, and that team is the one who proudly shouts “Just win, baby”.

The Raiders have also been linked with wideout DJ Chark for some time now, even going as far as negotiating with the former Jaguar on day-one of the legal tampering period. Unfortunately, all that was for naught as the 6’4 wide-receiver agreed to a one-year deal with Detroit.

As stated a few moments ago, running-back Brandon Bolden is expected to sign with Las Vegas. This is largely in part to the Raiders losing their third negotiation battle this free agency, missing out of James White so elected to stay in New England.

With Jacobs and Drake on the roster, it was a surprise to some that Las Vegas swung here in the first place, but I can only assume it means the Jalen Richard era has come to an end.

Unfortunately, losing out on Chark and White weren’t the only players Las Vegas lost out on. The Raiders also part ways with a few players on the ’21 roster, by way of free agency.
