Las Vegas Raiders agree to terms with both the Packers and Davante Adams, which is a franchise-defining moment.
After weeks of speculation and developments, it’s finally done. The Raiders get their man. Yes, I’m talking about Davante Adams.
Green Bay has agreed to ship Adams to the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for what Adam Schefter calls “two prime 2022 picks”. In a corresponding move, the Raiders and Adams have agreed to a 5-year deal worth upwards of $141, making him the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history.
If you ask the NFL world who the best wide receiver in the league is, the consensus will be the now-Raider Davante Adams. The former Packer receiver is coming off of back-to-back first-team All-Pro’s, in addition to a current streak of five Pro Bowls.
Raiders get the WR1 they have been waiting for in Davante Adams
The Raiders’ passing offense struggled heavily after the departure of Henry Ruggs, but there is no doubt Adams will help turn this around. They’ve also been horrendous in the red zone under Gruden’s lead, but Adams helps change that as well. The 6’1 pass-catcher has recorded an unreal 29 touchdowns in the last two years, including a league-leading 18 in 2020.
The trade-talks were going on behind closed doors for days, with NFL Network Ian’s Rapoport explaining “While Aaron Rodgers was negotiating his contract, he knew Davante Adams would never play for the Packers again”. Now, Adams finds himself as part of Raider Nation, where the fans wanted him to be for months now.
Las Vegas Raiders revamping the defense in a big way
The Las Vegas Raiders have added two quality players to the defense, signing edge rusher Chandler Jones and trading for cornerback Rock Ya-Sin.
Adams reunites with quarterback Derek Carr, who were teammates back at Fresno State. The two collectively shattered many school records, leaving their mark on the school for eternity. They hope to duplicate their success in Vegas, giving the Silver and Black a ‘contender’ label they haven’t worn for a while.
