Big shocker! Football media pans Raiders Davante Adams trade
The Raiders got a C- for the Davante Adams trade
Yes, you read that correctly. The Athletic’s Sheil Kapadia graded the trade and gave Las Vegas a C-for their efforts. Considering what the Raiders got in return for their draft picks, the trade deserves, at the very least, a B+.
You could definitely give it an A-and no one would be upset. However, you can’t deny that now you will never know what type of impact player the Raiders could’ve landed with their first two choices in this year’s NFL draft.
Kapadia’s reasoning, to be fair, does make sense if you look at it objectively which is hard sometimes given that as a fan you’re probably still celebrating today.
"“It’s not just the picks. It’s also paying Adams one of two league-wide outlier contracts for a receiver. He’s an elite player, but $28.25 million makes Adams the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL, and he turns 30 in December. This deal carries obvious risk.”"
That’s not chump change that the Raiders are going to have to pay, and as I stated, those draft picks do carry value, especially when you consider whose hands they were going to be in. Be that as it may, when McDaniels and Dave Ziegler were introduced earlier this year, they made it clear that they wanted to win now with Derek Carr, and that’s exactly what they’re going for.
Speaking of Derek Carr…
Let that sink in, Raider Nation. You could easily argue that this trade was more of a result of Adams and his relationship with the Packer’s brain trust failing than Carr. Let’s not pretend like Adams and Aaron Rodgers didn’t form arguably one of the top-three quarterback wide receiver duos either.
We all know about Adams and his history with Carr, practically best friends for all intents and purposes, but Adams could’ve requested any team he wanted. He chose the Silver and Black. The Raiders clearly won this trade, mostly due to the immediate ramifications, if nothing else. That’s right, the Raiders are now contenders, whether the national media likes it or not.
